It was a sunny summer morning and Ashley was just beginning to stir. A beautiful song of a bird was singing outside of her bedroom window, but what Ashley heard was sound of someone crying. “Is that Mommy crying?” thought Ashley.
Without a minute to waste Ashley hopped out of her bed and followed the quiet weeping that led to her parent’s room. She walked over to the bed where her mother was sitting and gently wrapped her arm around her. “Why are you crying Mommy?”
“Grandpa just called and told me that Grandma is sick,” replied her mother.
“What’s wrong with Grandma?”
“Grandma just found out that she has something called breast cancer.”
“What’s breast cancer?” asked Ashley.
“It’s something that forms in the chest area,” said Ashley’s mother as she put her hands across her chest. “It forms in this area of the body and can make a person very sick.”
“Will Grandma have to go to the hospital?”
“Yes, Ashley.” replied her mother. “Grandma will have to spend time in the hospital to help her get better. Ashley’s mother wrapped her arms around her and the tears again gently streamed down her face.
